Mindfulness Meditation, Psychology and Philosophy
- Free
Please join the meditation, psychology and
philosophy class dedicated to cultivating mindfulness
and exploring psychological and philosophical aspects
of mindful living.
Each 90-minute gathering starts with a 20-minute
meditation, followed by a 20-minute lecture on a specific
topic relevant to mindful living. The second half of the
gathering -about 50 minutes- involves sharing knowledge
and experiences, with some emphasis on the psychological
and philosophical issues involved. These gatherings will
help both new and old practitioners develop and strengthen
their mindful practice while engaging in enriching dialogue.
No prior experience is necessary.
Alejandro Pawliszyn is a therapist who has
practice mindful meditation for several years. Im
not part of a religious tradition or lineage, and hope
to facilitate this group in a spirit of open-minded curiosity,
and fun -yet structured- dialogue.
Fee: No money involved. You can show your gratitude by
initiating self-care activities for you or/and others.

Knitting and Crochet forum
The Historic Overlook House will host a free weekly
knitting and crochet open forum for crafters to get
together and work on their projects. Crafters are responsible
for bringing all their own materials. All ages, genders and skill

Children's Story Hour - Free
Free story hour and play/activity time for ages 1 to
4 years, siblings welcome. Children Must Be Accompanied
By an Adult. Held in the basement of the Overlook
House. Join Jessica Coolidge for this FREE hour
of fun and participate in this positive interaction experience
for kids ages 1-4.

Penny's Puppet Shows
Penny will be hosting regular affordable puppet shows
in the welcoming warm environment of the Overlook House.
All ages are welcome. Guests can sit in chairs or on the
floor while they play with puppets and dancing scarves
along with shake egg shakers or settle in with a book.
This is participation for all program with singing, clapping,
and wiggling encouraged. Free Coffee and Tea and Stickers
for all to enjoy.
Tickets available at the door. Admission will be $5.00
each or 4 guests for $17.00 (Under 1 year free). For

Parents of Infants Discussion Group
The Overlook House is hosting an informal mother/father
discussion group about and for infants. Get to know other
Overlook neighborhood parents of infants up to 18 months
of age. The purpose of this program is to benefit parents
by communicating about their feeling, insights and questions
with other parents. Parent-to-parent mentoring is an enormous
help to individuals and strengthens our community. Share
the joy of parenting with others! For more information

Yoga and You at the Overlook House
North Portland Resident and yoga instructor Heidi Jo
Timm holds weekly classes at the Overlook House and its
lovely back lawn (weather permitting). Heidi teaches an
alignment focused style that encourages balance in the
body and mind. Her gentle, yet challenging approach emphasizes
building inner awareness, strength and flexibility. Classes
are in session and are open to beginners as well as experienced
yoga enthusiasts. Please note that a mat will be necessary
and capacity is limited to twenty-five. For more information:

Tai Chi Chih
This American form of Tai Chi is easy to learn
(and remember) with great circulation and balance of chi
energy. It does not require physical fitness or coordination
and will provide many health and well-being benefits. Seniors
welcome. Classes are ongoing in eight week cycles. For

BOOTCAMP for Baby Boomers & Gen-X 'ers
- NEW LOCATION!
Kick it up this holiday season with a fun, motivating
and sweat-filled class to get you fit BEFORE the holidays.
Our motto in this new twist on BOOTCAMP, is Laughter
is a core exercise. Be prepared to ENJOY exercise,
sweat til you glow, and tone those muscles like never
before.
Class
will blend light cardio, strength training for your whole
body, core work, and balance/stability exercises. Class
is dynamic, and constantly changing. Even the music will
vary week to week (be sure to put in your own special
requests for class!)
The best part if you attend all 8 classes from
November through December, you will receive a specialized
BOOTCAMP t-shirt commending your hard work and laughter
throughout the class remember, laugher truly is
a core exercise.
Kate Fischer, MS, RD, LD is a local business owner, group
fitness instructor and dietitian at Edge Performance Fitness
on the corner of Ainsworth and Interstate. Kate has a
passion for making fitness and nutrition fun. Kate is
a registered dietitian as well as group fitness instructor
at Edge. Kate also coaches the half marathon training
program Foot Traffic University through the Foot Traffic
running store.

Holiday Craft Bazaar at the Overlook House
- 2009
You'll find handcrafted gifts for all occasions
such as garden art, home decor, jewelry, knitted scarves,
wooden toys, wooden kitchen utensils, jams, jellies, bath
products and more.
Proceeds from sales of raffle tickets for items
donated by venders and home baked goods donated by neighborhood
supporters, will benefit future programs for children
at the Overlook House.

Santa Comes To The Overlook House - 2009
HO! HO! HO! Its the holidays - time
for me fun, for good ol' Santa is coming to the Overlook
House! Now everything's in apple-pie order - the sleigh's
all shiny and ready to take off and so is the roly-poly
old man with his big bag of goodies coming to see all
of his favorite children (and grown-ups too!) Have your
photo taken for free with Santa and enjoy the FUN activities!
